LyondellBasell to Showcase at the XIV Plastics Pipes Conference

September 10, 2008

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- LyondellBasell Industries will feature its world-class polyolefins technology, production and marketing offerings used in pipe solutions at the XIV Plastics Pipes Conference in Budapest, September 22-24, 2008.

"Exhibiting at the Plastics Pipe Conference provides us with an exciting platform to present our expanded capabilities as LyondellBasell," explained Gianluca Brescia, Vice President of LyondellBasell's Pipe Business, who will deliver a keynote speech at the conference. "Each of the former companies, Basell and Lyondell, decided separately to participate in the organizing committee for this event. Now we will showcase as one global supplier with a strong commitment to the pipe industry."

By joining both companies, LyondellBasell created a company with more formidable resources to serve the pipe market on a global scale. "With our experience in Europe as well as our production sites and sales network in North America, combined with new assets in the Middle East and a growing network in Asia Pacific, LyondellBasell offers a highly competitive portfolio to an unprecedented number of customers around the globe," said Brescia.

Commitment to fast growing economies

LyondellBasell will also emphasize its commitment to fast growing economies such as those in Russia, Central and Eastern Europe, where the company's polyolefin resins are used in infrastructure projects such as drinking water and gas distribution as well as sewage disposal.

Didier Nozahic, LyondellBasell's Global Business Manager for Pipe added, "Hostalen CRP 100 black grades used in drinking water distribution exceed the minimum requirements of the latest ISO 4427 and ISO 4437 standard. End users are expecting a service life of up to 100 years. It was reported that pipes made using locally-produced resins often showed defects after just a few years of operation. Our goal in these essential infrastructure projects is to help decision-makers choose the correct options for the future."

Pipe applications will be some of the most important applications that will take advantage of the new capacity of polyolefins production coming on-stream from LyondellBasell's latest joint ventures in the Middle East. High density polyethylene resins will be sourced from the new world-scale Hostalen ACP plant, jointly owned by LyondellBasell and Tasnee, and polypropylene resins will be provided by Al Waha's Spherizone PP plant.
