ROTTERDAM, Netherlands, September 14, 2010 – LyondellBasell’s Spheripol process technology has been selected by Pucheng Clean Energy Chemical Company Ltd. for a new 400 KT per year polypropylene plant to be built in Pucheng County, Weinan City, Shaanxi Province, in the Peoples Republic of China. Start up is planned for 2013.
The Spheripol process polypropylene plant will be part of one of China’s largest coal-based chemicals production projects, which is expected to produce more than two million tonnes of olefins per year.
“By selecting the Spheripol process technology, our project will benefit from industry-leading technology to meet market needs at very competitive operating costs,” according to Zhang Zhihong, Pucheng’s vice president and a member of the Board of Directors.
“Pucheng’s selection is further evidence of the wide acceptance of the Spheripol process as a proven polypropylene process technology,” said Kaspar Evertz, vice president of Licensing at LyondellBasell. “This is due in large part to the outstanding reliability of the process, which is one of the most important selection criteria for these types of projects.”
The Spheripol process is the leading technology for the production of the entire range of polypropylene grades, including homopolymers, random copolymers and heterophasic copolymers. The Pucheng plant is the 109th Spheripol process line licensed to date; more than 22 million tonnes of Spheripol process polypropylene capacity have been licensed worldwide.
