LyondellBasell to showcase its world-class polyolefins capabilities at Plastex in Brno, Czech Rep

May 02, 2008

May 02, 2008 – LyondellBasell Industries, the new global leader in polymers, chemicals and fuels, will feature its world-class polyolefins technology, production and marketing offerings at Plastex 2008, the Czech Republic's premier trade fair for the plastics industry, to be held May 13 to 16 in Brno.  The LyondellBasell exhibit will be located at PAV A1, Stand 057

“Exhibiting at Plastex this year provides us with an exciting platform to present our expanded capabilities as LyondellBasell,” said Nick Stoydin, head of the company’s new Bratislava office which opened in January 2008. “It is another way of demonstrating our strong commitment to the Central and Southern European Polyolefin markets. Customers seeking a clear advantage in this expanding market will learn how LyondellBasell’s broad product portfolio and manufacturing flexibility can deliver exceptional value to them.”

Addressing regional demand for high-performance packaging resins

LyondellBasell’s exhibit will feature polyolefins that can provide specialized performance attributes to address new packaging trends, offering the potential for inter-material replacement in applications historically the domain of PET and glass. The company’s Stretchene PP and PE resins are selected by customers to produce very high levels of rigidity, transparency, impact strength and production output for demanding injection stretch blow moulding (ISBM) applications such as food and household chemical packaging. LyondellBasell’s Metocene resins offer customers design versatility, exceptional purity, and high levels of transparency and stiffness for today’s consumer packaging.

Other product highlights will include LyondellBasell’s Purell family of select PE and PP grades. These resins can provide advantages in design, functionality and regulatory aspects, and are produced in conjunction with a medical protocol tailor-made to address the specialized requirements of customers in the healthcare markets.

Meeting the automotive industry’s growing needs

LyondellBasell will also feature its Hostacom PP compounds and highlight its global product sourcing capabilities in response to the increasingly-expanding automotive business requirements in Central and Southern Europe. With compounding facilities in close proximity to the growing number of automotive manufacturing plants in Eastern Europe, the company can provide OEMs with the material consistency they demand, regardless of where their regional operations are located. For example, components of FIAT’s new 500/Cinquecento city car, which is produced in FIAT’s Tichy, Poland plant, are specified in Italy and the resins are supplied to Eastern European-based auto manufacturing facilities to uniform specifications from LyondellBasell’s Bayreuth, Germany, PP compounding plant.

Resins based on the company’s proprietary Catalloy process technology will also be presented. These polymers are selected by customers for flexible packaging applications that require low seal initiation temperatures, broad processing windows, excellent optics and good mechanical properties. “Through a unique combination of catalysts, technology and monomers, Catalloy process resins can also produce high performance characteristics used by customers in applications in automotive, wire & cable, geomembranes and roofing market areas where we see a growing need for our advanced polyolefins,” said Stoydin.

A strategic focus in a dynamic region

LyondellBasell’s exhibit will also showcase the company’s pioneering PP and PE process technologies, and how they are addressing the growing needs of Central and Southern Europe. As the global leader in polyolefins, LyondellBasell offers differentiating technologies that enable companies to remain competitive and responsive to market dynamics.

Through its Polish joint venture Basell Orlen Polyolefins (BOP), LyondellBasell serves the fast-growing markets in Eastern Europe, as well as Western Europe. BOP operates two world-class plants -- a new 400 KT Spheripol polypropylene unit and a new 320 KT Hostalen high density polyethylene unit in Plock.

Alastian, one of LyondellBasell’s online sales channels, is also available to customers in Central and Southern Europe for the past year. “Positive customer feedback highlighted Alastian’s excellent features, including accessibility to over 60 grades, daily price updates, a simple online ordering platform and easy follow up on existing and pending orders,” said Just In’t Velt, Alastian Business Development and Marketing Manager.
